David Denholm is the President of the Public Service Research Foundation, a non-profit research and education organization concerned with public policy on unionism in public employment and union political influence on the size, cost and quality of government services. He is the senior editor of the Foundation's quarterly academic journal Government Union Review.
He is frequently a guest on radio and television programs to discuss and debate issues involving union political power and influence. He has appeared on "The Today Show," "The MacNeil-Lehrer Report," "Good Morning America," and "ABC News Nightline."
He has been a speaker at major conventions of business, trade, civic and political groups throughout the country including the National Conference of State Legislatures, the National Executive Institute of the FBI Academy, the Symposium on Public Sector Labor/Management Relations, the National School Boards Association and many conventions of state associations of local public officials.
His topics include: “Sovereignty and Compulsory Public Sector Bargaining,” “Labor Unrest and Public Policy: What every public official ought to know about Saul Alinsky’s ‘Rules for Radicals’,” “The Future of Unionism In America,” “Beyond Public Sector Unionism: A Better Way,” “The Impact of Unionism On the Quality of Public Education,” and “Is It Time For A New Labor Paradigm.” Mr. Denholm also fulfills requests for presentations on other topics related to union influence on public policy.
He has received a number of awards and honors including Honorary Life Membership in the Professional Association of Georgia Educators, a Most Valuable Person award from the American Motorcyclists Association and a Commendation from the Miami Project to Cure Paralysis.
Mr. Denholm received a bachelor’s degree in history from Santa Clara University. Before moving to Virginia in 1974 to work with the Public Service Research organizations, he was an unsuccessful candidate for the California State Assembly. He served 31 years in the Naval Reserve. He is active in a wide variety of charitable, civic and political activities. His hobbies include motorcycling, leather craft and making buttons.
